Overall the book was really good， It had strong character development， lots of plot twists， and was filled with relatable people。 I felt like it could have spent a little bit more time really diving into the murder and trying to explore more about the "Why"。 But it kept you wanting to read more with lots of revelations and cliffhangers。 I felt like you really got to know the characters which I found made the book more emotional and meaningful to the reader which I really enjoyed。 If you are look Overall the book was really good， It had strong character development， lots of plot twists， and was filled with relatable people。 I felt like it could have spent a little bit more time really diving into the murder and trying to explore more about the "Why"。 But it kept you wanting to read more with lots of revelations and cliffhangers。 I felt like you really got to know the characters which I found made the book more emotional and meaningful to the reader which I really enjoyed。 If you are looking for a good exiting young adult murder mystery I would 100% recommend this book。 。。。more

I liked the books a lot。 Did i love it as much as i expected to no。 It’s still a good book and if you like the rest of her books you will like this one as well。 I didn’t love it like The cousins or one of us is lying。 The mystery in this book i found less intriguing than in her other books and it didn’t keep me captivated like her other books did。 The 3 characters were great and pretty reliable （action wise）。 I think this is a 3。5-4 star read。

（Huge thank you to Penguin Random House NZ for a review copy of this book！） This book was a bit outside my usual genre of fantasy and romance， but I’m so glad I took the plunge！ I normally struggle a little with multiple POVs but the writing for each character was so distinctive that it wasn’t an issue for me at all this time！I will admit that the first half was a bit slower than anticipated， but it more than made up for it with the second half。 The twists and turns were fun， and I loved trying （Huge thank you to Penguin Random House NZ for a review copy of this book！） This book was a bit outside my usual genre of fantasy and romance， but I’m so glad I took the plunge！ I normally struggle a little with multiple POVs but the writing for each character was so distinctive that it wasn’t an issue for me at all this time！I will admit that the first half was a bit slower than anticipated， but it more than made up for it with the second half。 The twists and turns were fun， and I loved trying to figure everything out along the way （sadly， my detective skills are almost non existent）。 I’ve been meaning to read more from this lovely author for a while， and this was the push I needed to do exactly that！ 。。。more

Where do I even begin？😫Inevitably， Karen McManus has become an instant buy for me。 And yet， I still cannot comprehend the obsessed state her page turning novels throw me into every time I read a new book - and this just added to the list。READ。 IT。 NOW。 That’s all， thank you — I’m gonna lay down and sleep now and comprehend how good this plot was😭

I have had my ups and downs when it comes to Karen M McManus's books and I was pleasantly surprised with this from the very begining。 I liked all of the characters and found them to be really believable which drove me on throughout the book。 The plot I also found to be really fast-paced and full of twists。 I enjoyed the reveals and trying to work out who dun it and think that overall this was a very good book。 It didn't completely blow me away but I find that thrillers don't really for me anymor I have had my ups and downs when it comes to Karen M McManus's books and I was pleasantly surprised with this from the very begining。 I liked all of the characters and found them to be really believable which drove me on throughout the book。 The plot I also found to be really fast-paced and full of twists。 I enjoyed the reveals and trying to work out who dun it and think that overall this was a very good book。 It didn't completely blow me away but I find that thrillers don't really for me anymore but I think this was a very well done YA thriller with almost dark academia vibes。 4 out of 5 stars。 。。。more

Time for a YA fiction read！ Karen M。 McManus is one of my favourite teen fiction writers。 Her newest is You'll Be The Death of Me。Cal， Mateo and Ivy were the best of friends in Grade eight。 They've since drifted apart and are now seniors。 A chance meeting outside the school entrance has them all deciding to pull a Ferris Bueller day。 They've each got their own reason for wanting to ditch school。 It's a great idea - until it's not。 They stumble across a crime scene。。。。McManus has created three ve Time for a YA fiction read！ Karen M。 McManus is one of my favourite teen fiction writers。 Her newest is You'll Be The Death of Me。Cal， Mateo and Ivy were the best of friends in Grade eight。 They've since drifted apart and are now seniors。 A chance meeting outside the school entrance has them all deciding to pull a Ferris Bueller day。 They've each got their own reason for wanting to ditch school。 It's a great idea - until it's not。 They stumble across a crime scene。。。。McManus has created three very different protagonists。 They're all likable and each brings a different dynamic。 McManus always captures and portrays her teen characters in a believable manner。 You'll Be the Death of Me is told in rotating chapters from each of the three。 As readers， we're privy to their thoughts， angst - and secrets。 McManus devotes time to the romantic entanglements as well as family issues of the the three， but this only adds to the overall feel of the book。 That crime scene？ Each of them has a connection to what has occurred。。。。。McManus gives us lots of choices for the whodunit。 The final aha won't be overly hard to suss out， but it's the journey there that's the most fun。 And I did have fun reading this one。 Ferris Bueller with a side of Scooby Doo。 McManus has a formula that works - and she had me happily ensconced on the couch for on rainy Saturday afternoon。 。。。more

General ImpressionsI think I saw the author describe You'll Be the Death of Me as Ferry Bueller's Day Off with murder and it's absolutely right。This was my second story by Karen M。 Macmanus after The Cousins which I thought was good but not enough to justify how adored the author is。 I started this book as my second chance to be amazed and reader， I was。When three teens decide to cut class together， it's more than a way to try to reconnect after years of drifting apart or repeat the day that mad General ImpressionsI think I saw the author describe You'll Be the Death of Me as Ferry Bueller's Day Off with murder and it's absolutely right。This was my second story by Karen M。 Macmanus after The Cousins which I thought was good but not enough to justify how adored the author is。 I started this book as my second chance to be amazed and reader， I was。When three teens decide to cut class together， it's more than a way to try to reconnect after years of drifting apart or repeat the day that made them friends in the first place but an excuse to avoid their lives for a day。 Unfortunately， some of their problems had the same idea and they come across the body of another student which could spell trouble for all of them in different ways。 They are then forced to embark on a search for clues that can exonerate them before their parents hear about it。Despite that short summary， this is not the kind of story where everyone has useless parents and has to fend off by themselves， it's just that the action is packed in a single day and they are unaware of the stakes at play， thinking their parent's reaction and punishment is the worst that can happen。Something I noticed in The Cousins and that maintained itself here was that the author features inequality， sexism， homophobia and sexism without making them the focus of her story， which I really liked。 Instead， she simply portrays them as factors that can influence or derail a situation in different ways depending on the character: a cop or security guard is not a problem for the white characters but when their POC friend is with them they all have to make sure he doesn't become a target or if the worst happens， is not the one blamed for everything。 At the same time， they have to discard their own prejudices in search of the truth。The biggest reason I devoured this book was the way the three main characters interacted。 Karen is a master of writing people that like each other but might not understand why other people don't have the same options they have: a character from a rich family isn't aware of their privilege when it comes to simply not having to worry about money。 Those misunderstandings and initial lack of communication resulted in characters being tentative and resorting to manipulation or outright threats in order to force the others to help them。 So the reader is forced to watch these characters struggling between being kind and supportive to people they still care for and convincing the others they have a common goal by whichever means necessary。The nerve-wracking nature of that situation creates pressure enough that all kinds of secrets come to the surface which will ultimately decide their future when it comes to the murder and their personal relationships。 The story was able to balance the nostalgia for simpler times with a desire to grow up and make the right decisions to solve their problems。Lastly， while this book features a lot of important themes I would like to focus on a single one: the presence of a sexual predator and the way that their looks and gender influenced the way they were seen throughout the story。 I liked that the author portrayed both the way the victim and other people saw the incident differently， depending on their own beliefs and prejudices but also made the reader question and judge the situation for themselves。ConclusionsI devoured this book and can now call myself a Macmanus' fan without reserve。 I need a sequel and movie adaptation for tomorrow because that ending was all I needed。 For now， the 'One of Us is Lying' tv series will have to do， I guess。Thank you to Penguin UK for sending me this proof。Rating: 4。5/5 。。。more
